Speed up Acrobat Reader!

If you still use Adobe Acrobat Reader (I don’t think you should), you’ll notice that it takes a long time to load especially on slower computers. There is a way to speed up the loading of this gigantic piece of software.

This is done by removing the unneeded plugins that Adobe Reader automatically installs.
Make sure Adobe Reader is not running when you are doing this.

Here is how to do it:

  1. Open up the folder where Adobe Reader is installed. (usually C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat Reader)
  2. Move all the files from the plugins folder (cut and paste) to the Optional folder.
That’s it, now Adobe Reader should load faster.

Now, if you’d rather not do this there is an excellent alternative to Adobe Reader.

Foxit Reader! Get it here. It’s much faster and doesn’t come with all the bloat.
